Strongly influenced by my lifelong love of flowers and work as a florist, I wanted to explore the botanical link between plants and fertility in my design as well as making a functional vase. I created the ‘members’ by hand out of white paper porcelain and created a ‘veiny’ texture on their surface by pressing flowers and foliage into the clay. This subtle imprint in the clay is brought out by gold leaf - again a nod to the botanical! Filled with Phaelonopsis Orchids, this flower symbolises Fertility and is derived from the Ancient Greek Word ‘Orkhis’, literally meaning testicles. Together my phallic vases and the orchids make up the complete male genitalia.
