Having taken part in the incredible rickshaw race across Madhya Pradesh in 2015, to raise money in Mark Shand’s memory for his amazing charity Elephant Family, I was very excited to be able to be a part of this next step on this essential fundraising journey.
I work in paint, textiles, photographs, collage, 3D - anything as long as it is saturated in colour. The exploration of colour is one of the main focuses of my practice. I was hugely influenced by the colours, traditions and cultures of India whilst living, working and travelling there for a few formative years in the 1990's. In India the Lingam is a sacred symbol. Lingam is translated as wand of light - through which the holy water of life flows and is generated. I wanted to balance these Linga with sacred Yoni - the sacred Vagina, symbol of life, creativity and love. In Tantra the unification of Lingam and Yoni is the way to achieve Ananda - a state of joy, bliss and ecstasy.
A shrine to celebrate the union of Yoni-Lingam - in Tantric art the Yoni is represented by the triangle. Japa Yoga is a practise of continuously repeating the same mantra.... in this case OM - considered to be the most scared mantra. Meditate and Worship!
